Iowa Trip

A few months ago, my friend invited me and a few girls from work along on a road trip to Iowa to go see her bf who plays for the U. We have been talking about this trip for so long, it was finally time this weekend. The game was a 7 pm on Saturday so we left at noon and headed down for a fun little road trip.

We made a few stops along the way, we had 5 girls in a car so I'm sure you can only imagine why we had to stop so many times. But the crazy part was, we are driving in Iowa. Now I have driven through before, but I had forgot how there is literally nothing but farm after farm after farm out there. And to get to a gas station, you have to drive 5 minutes off the freeway. I just could not live here. Mind made up.

After a what seemed like the longest drive in eternity, we finally made it to Iowa City for the Hawkeye vs Gopher Game. We arrived when it was already dark, I was really hoping we would have been able to get some cool pictures around campus, but the game was starting and we had to get to our seats. Cut to 40 minutes later, fighting through crowds and lines to the ladies room, and we finally made it to our seats.

The game was close, but in the end we lost. And then we had to enjoy the long 4.5 hour drive back to Minneapolis. We got home at 5 AM. All I can say is, NEVER AGAIN.

Even after everything, we had a great time. We laughed, we bonded. I am so thankful for these girls and I can't wait till we plan our next road trip. But next time, I think we will be spending the night and enjoying a few bottles of wine.

Adventures with Keegan: Franconia Sculpture Park Part II

I hope you enjoyed some of the last photos from our trip to the Franconia Sculpture Park, because this post is going to be a few more. And by a few I mean a lot. This place is like a photographers dream, I am only hoping someone begs me to do a shoot there soon (any takers?)

I honestly don't even think I could pick a favorite sculpture if I tried, but the color mirror wall and the big wood circle are two of my favorites. Also the floating house from the first post (click here).

We walked over to this sculpture and he would not leave it. He loved ringing the bell so much, He kept saying it was for the other people, but I kept trying to tell him it was just the two of us. Crazy kid. I finally pulled that ever so sly trick of bribery with some goldfish to get him to leave it and keep walking.

After a little break, we decided to start heading home. But we ended up being in the park another hour!! There was so much to look at as we headed to the exit, you even get to walk through the area where the sculptors are making new art. We kept walking and found just what Keegan was was
waiting for all day: a sculpture made just for kids, slides and all!

The last thing to look at on the way out is the stereo wall. Keegan kept trying to listen to what was playing but there was no music, although that would be cool if they could make all those stereos work at once.

I can't wait to go back again soon, and the best part is, we didn't even see the whole thing. Hopefully we will get back in the spring next year, although I think I might take a trip up myself this winter to see how things look with some fresh snow.

Adventures with Keegan: Franconia Sculpture Park Part I

It's been awhile since I have broken out the camera just for our own fun, so this weekend I knew was the perfect time since we headed out to the Franconia Sculpture Park. I have been using my phone for pictures so much lately, it was great to get back into the swing of things while taking some fun shots of Keegan.

I drove by this place a few weeks ago, when we where on our way down to hike at Taylor's Falls, and knew if we had a free weekend, I had to bring Keegan here. You can't see that much from the road, but what I did see stuck in my mind and I knew I would be back. Let me tell you, this place is AMAZING! It is a 43 acre outdoor sculpture park, open dusk to dawn, 365 days a year that host 40 different artist and it is TOTALLY FREE! Can't get much better than that!

We both were excited when we pulled into the parking lot, me even more so when I noticed we where the ONLY PEOPLE there! It was a little chilly which might have kept some people away but, I knew it would be a great time to get some shots just of Keegan!

There are so many pictures I want to share of this place so I decided to make this into a two part post. Please enjoy the first half of this Adventure with Keegan! Can't wait to show you more!

See you soon for the second half of our post! Stay tuned!

Thankful: Our Family Photos

I talked about my friend Jess in the last post, and I thought I would share our beautiful photos that she took for us on the blog today. Jess has taken our photos for the last two years and I love them so much. This year she was able to capture Keegan's growing personality, our love of reading books together and even got in a few shots just for me for the blog.

A few weeks ago, when I was on my way to pick up Keegan from school, I stumbled upon this beautiful tree filled with orange leaves. It was so bright and gorgeous in the sunlight, I knew we had to try and get a few shots in front of it. So for 2 days, we crossed our fingers that there would be no rain or wind and the tree would keep all it's leaves until photo day. And guess what? It worked and we got the pictures I was hoping for.

Most people do family photos every year for Christmas cards and even though I am a single mom, I still keep this tradition going with it now just being the two of us. I am so thankful that Jess was able to capture these shots, I always hold these photos near and dear to my heart since Keegan changes so much every year. A huge thanks to Jess from Jessica Purdue Rep Photography.

November is the month of thankfulness, something that should be thought of more often than we probably do. Since it is that time of year, we going to be doing a post every Thursday this month talking about what we are thankful for. Next Thankful post will be all questions answered by Keegan himself, so be prepared for the hilarity that will in sue. Until next time.
